Van Hage garden centre:
Dutch post
The windmill was originally built for the original retail site at Spitalbrook Farm, Broxborne, in 1958,
where it was filmed by Pathe News surrounded by gardens of tulips.
In 1972 it was transferred (complete with sails, on the back of an open truck) to the Great Amwell site, where it
remains.
By 2021 it was looking rather very sorry for itself with a broken sail,
but in Nov 2022 Blue Diamond acquired the 3 Van Hage garden centres, which they set about refurbishing.
As part of this the windmill was extensively refurbished, and moved forward closer to the road to
be a very visible advertisment for the business, with a grand reopening event held for the windmill on 20th May 2023.
The garden centre uses a logo that shows a windmill, but it is significantly different from the design of the model:
the sails rotate the oposite direction, and the windshaft is much lower on the logo than in reality.
